Greetings, fellow food lovers, welcome in. Before you dig in (pun intended), here’s the honest version of what this page is: my perspective on food, why it matters beyond the plate, and how I try to cook because of it.
What I Care About
Whether you’re cooking for yourself or enjoying a meal someone made for you, it’s worth thinking about what it took to get that food to your plate. A few things I keep top of mind:
Food insecurity. When I develop recipes, I try to keep them accessible enough for students to make on a real budget - food insecurity among college students remains a serious, ongoing issue nationwide. If there’s a university near you, it’s work asking how you can help, from volunteering at a campus food bank to something smaller.
Sustainability. A significant share of food waste happens before ingredients ever reach the supermarket, which means the waste we can control happens at home. Buying local, buying only what you’ll sue, and planning meals a little better all add up. Im working on this myself, one week at a time.
Paying attention to issues like these is where change starts. Be thoughtful about what you put into your body and what you ask others to put into theirs.
Cooking, like life, can get messy. Enjoy it. Color outside the lines. You do you.
If there’s a food-related issue you’re passionate about, I’d love to hear it - email me and I may add it here. Let’s make the world a little better, one bite at a time.
How I Cook
Food for everyone. My goal is to create fun, exciting dishes for anyone at the table, from a struggling student to a serious gourmand. Food shouldn't require a certain budget or background to enjoy.
A world of flavor, on your plate. We live in a worlds that’s really one big tossed salad - we’re all in the bowl together, and when you mix it up with the right vinaigrette, it’s something incredible. Incorporating international cuisines into how we eat isn’t just about variety; it’s a way of understanding each other. Food is one of the best meeting points we have, despite our differences.
Make it yours. Like life, every recipe here is meant to be adapted. Don’t like kale? Use arugula or bok choy. Love pepper flakes? Add them to everything (maybe not dessert - your call). Trust your instincts in the kitchen.
Ingredients matter. Buy the best you can afford. Good, fresh, quality ingredients are what separate an okay dish from a great one - a good butter or a fresh loaf of bread can elevate a simple meal more than any technique can. And don’t skip the fresh herbs. They’re pretty, they’re tasty, and they’ll surprise you (and whoever’s lucky enough to eat your cooking).
